Karen Traviss' books in the Republic Commando series do a great job of expanding the lore of these groups. I would suggest some further reading to allow you to make your own opinion: If you were looking at a one on one fight, I would hypothesize the ARC four commandos against 1 ARC, Commandos four Commandos against four unorganized ARCs would be a toss up in my opinion.
